The National Coordinating Office was established
with a view to strengthening further the
aims and objectives of ICCIDD.
It is expected to facilitate the elimination of Iodine Deficiency
Disorders by educating the community to act effectively in improving
and maintaining their quality of life.
It would also assist the salt producers in producing quality
iodised salt for promoting
optimum mental and physical development of children of Sri Lanka.
This would ultimately
pave the way in fulfilling the national obligation of virtually
eliminating iodine deficiency disorders in Sri Lanka.
The National Coordinating office has now come forward at this
hour of need to help the destitute children whose families were
affected by the calamity which befell them on that fateful day
when the Tsunami Tidal Waves hit the island on December 26,
2004. This programme was launched almost immediately after the
disaster. |
